Statutory Accounts in Pakistan: Sole Trader, AOP, Company and LLP

"Statutory accounts" means the formal year-end financial statements a business prepares from its books โ€” typically a statement of financial position, a profit and loss account, and supporting notes. What is required, and how formal it needs to be, depends heavily on the type of entity.

Sole traders and individuals

A sole trader's accounts support the individual's tax return. They are usually the simplest set, but they still need to reconcile to the underlying records and present income and expenses clearly.

Partnerships and Associations of Persons (AOP)

An AOP prepares accounts for the business as a whole and then allocates results among the partners. Clear partner capital and profit-sharing treatment matters, because errors here ripple into each partner's own position.

Limited companies

Companies face the most formal requirements, with obligations to prepare financial statements and file with the regulator. Presentation, disclosures and comparatives all matter, and consistency from year to year is expected.

Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs)

LLPs sit between partnerships and companies, combining partner-style profit allocation with company-style filing expectations. Getting the format right for the entity type is essential.

Why the entity type drives the work

The same trial balance produces very different finished accounts depending on whether it belongs to a sole trader or a limited company. Using the wrong format โ€” or rebuilding templates by hand each year โ€” is where time is lost and errors creep in.

How accounts production software helps

Accounts production software takes a trial balance through to a complete, correctly formatted set of statutory accounts, with notes, comparatives and disclosures handled for you. Iris Pro produces statutory accounts for Sole Traders, Partnerships/AOP, Limited Companies and LLPs โ€” applying the right format for each entity so the output is consistent and professional. For firms preparing many clients' year-ends, that consistency is the difference between a smooth season and a stressful one.

Whatever tool you use, confirm current filing requirements for your entity type with the relevant regulator or your advisor, as obligations are periodically updated.
